“Lilith: the woman who was, is, and will be. Lilith: the woman who demanded equality from the moment of her creation and, as a consequence, was erased from history as the first woman. Yet this attempted erasure only made her realise her own power, smashing the patriarchy before it had even fully taken shape.
An evening with Katy Cawkwell performing Lilith: The Other Side of the Story highlighted the enduring power of this myth. The performance emphasised the importance of naming women in their own right, the necessity of using the correct language when speaking about rape, and the complicity of those who remain silent in the face of men’s brutal behaviour.
Lilith may belong to myth, but the struggles she embodies remain current. The power of Katy Cawkwell’s performance lies in showing that Lilith’s story is not confined to the past. Lilith was, is, and will be alongside women who refuse erasure, who challenge injustice, and who reclaim their own narratives from those who would rather define them. As with Lilith, these women are the goddesses although society justifies them as the demons.
An empowering evening witnessing a goddess perform, thank you Katy for saying it as it is.”
